FOX to Broadcast Race at M.M.P

After being televised live on SPEED since the event’s inception in 2004, the OHIO 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race will be televised live on FOX for the first time ever in 2007. After being shown exclusively on SPEED since 2003, FOX has scheduled two NCTS broadcasts for 2007; the first event slated for FOX is the March 31 event at Martinsville Speedway, with the event at Mansfield Motorsports Park slated for May 26. The broadcast is scheduled for a 1 P.M. Eastern start.

“We have always enjoyed having our events televised on SPEED and we look forward to having several other events on SPEED in 2007. But to have our NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race broadcast on FOX is a real boost,” said MMP president and general manager Chris Mize. “It’s something that will give a lot of added value to our fans and to our sponsors. SPEED’s ratings have been very strong, but this will give us a nice bump in the number of people watching our race. And given that it’s a big racing weekend with the Indianapolis 500 and Coke 600, we’re honored to be given a network slot.”Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the start of summer, but it is also one of the busiest racing weekends in the country. The Indianapolis 500 takes place just a few hours to the west, while the NASCAR Busch Series and Nextel Cup Series are busy in Charlotte.

Mansfield joined the Memorial Day weekend activities in 2006.“It’s great to be on the schedule on Memorial Day weekend,” Mize said. “It is an honor to be in the same company with all of the other major motorsports events taking place over the weekend. I think the FOX broadcast will expose some people who might not be familiar with the Truck Series to some good hard short track racing. The Indy 500 is a one of a kind event, and so is the Coke 600. But both are on superspeedways. You can’t rub wheels at all in an Indy car, and even at Charlotte they are going so fast that they don’t want to do too much beating and banging on each other.

Mansfield is the shortest track NASCAR races on and the Truck Series drivers really lay it on the line when they come here. There will be plenty of short track action, and probably some tempers after the race because of it. It should be a great show in person, and for those fans that can’t make it, it will make for great TV. We are really looking forward to it.”

Tickets for the OHIO 250 and all other events at Mansfield Motorsports Park can be ordered by calling the track ticket office at (419) 525-RACE (7223) or by visiting the track website at www.mansfield-speedway.com.

M.M.P offers season pass to oval track for just $169

Mansfield Motorsports Park will offer fans a chance to purchase a season pass to every oval track event on the 2007 schedule for just $169. This represents a savings of nearly $50 over the price of buying each ticket individually.

“When we went to our “specials only” schedule, we looked at what the overall ticket prices were and decided we’d like to offer our loyal fans some sort of reward,” said MMP president and general manager Chris Mize. “There are some of the best and most unique events in the Midwest on our schedule.

“We are the only track on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule that doesn’t have either a Nextel Cup or a Busch Series race. We have a NASCAR Busch East Series and Whelen Modified Tour doubleheader. We have a USAC doubleheader and the ISMA Nationals. And we have two USAR Hooters Pro cup Series races, including the opener for the championship series. Those are some major events for a short track to have.

“We know we’ll have many fans that can come and take in all of our events on the oval track in 2007,” Mize said. “Buying a season pass, which is just $169 for every event on the schedule, saves them almost $50. Come to think of it, it’s like getting tickets to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race for nothing.”

Mize said those fans that have already renewed their NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series tickets for 2007 can also upgrade to a season pass.

“All they need to do is call our ticket office and say they would like to upgrade,” Mize said. “The money they have already spent on their Truck race tickets will be factored in.”

In addition to a pass to get in the gate for each and every racing event at the track in 2007, there will be several premium special events throughout the year for season pass holders.

“We are working on ideas for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and the NASCAR doubleheader right now,” Mize said. “We always have a cookout the night before the race for the USAR Hooters Pro cup teams when they come here for their championship event, and we will also open that up to our season ticket holders. We’ll announce some of the other events for our season pass holders as soon as the details are worked out.”

Tickets for all events at Mansfield Motorsports Park are on sale now. Call the track ticket office at (419) 525-RACE (7223) or log on to the track’s website, www.mansfield-speedway.com for ticket information.
